Alitalia’s losses deepened in first quarter of 2017

Rome (dpa) – Alitalia is losing money at an ever-faster rate, complicating efforts to rescue Italy’s near-bankrupt airline, news reports said Monday.
Alitalia lost 500 million euros (550 million dollars) in 2016 and a further 200 million euros in the first quarter of 2017, the newspaper La Repubblica reported.
This compares to a 199-million-euro loss for 2015, the last year for which the company has published financial results.
